My daughter Noellani will be having a Gothica themed sweet 16 party on no other date but Friday the 13th of October, 2006.
We will be sending out "save the date" cards in March with a revamped version of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven". The actual invitation is parchment burned at the ends and sealed with wax enclosed in a mailable cardboard coffin box. We have rented a reception hall that just happens to back up to a cemetary. It will be a costume party, we will have candy apples, a chocolate fountain, cotton candy, and of course, chips, dip, hot-dogs, and hamburgers. The centerpieces will be fish bowels with dry-ice, and black magic roses...(hot glue a sheet of mesh wire after you put the ice into the bowel, this allows you to pour in the water and start the fog process and also allows enough space to put rose stems in, but doesn't allow for fingers to get in.)The tablecloths are burgundy with what looks like spiderweb material overlayed on top. We have been planning and getting little things for a year. We utilized the internet and printed everything ourselves with the help of a color printer. Finding a theme was first, decide a budget, find and book a location that fits your theme, get a DJ (they play everything for everybodys taste, surf the net for everything...I mean everything. We will usher everyone in to have a seat then there will be a waltz type dance called "Dia de los Muertos" or "Day of the Dead". There will be 8 of her guy friends in black tuxedos (western type square tail and white ruffled shirts) top hats, white gloves, canes, and a skeleton masks. My daughter will be wearing her burgundy lily munster inspired gown. She will dance this waltz with them and then dance with her dad. This is how we are planning to present Noellani to polite society as a young lady worthy of all its rights, privilages, and curfews. All of the above will happen after she gets a 6am serenade of the Mananitas by her dad, grandpa, and our local mariachi group. She will have a 10am mass of thanksgiving, then go to a spa for the day. Since this is a school day, we will be requesting the day ahead of time from the school principal.
