Every second of that party was memorable for me and my family. Alot of work went into it but everyone agreed how worth it it was. I came up with the ideas overtime. The invitation was the simplest part. I had an image of my face washed out in the background and put columns of photos on either side of the A5 invite, showing pictures of me and friends. I used a formal, elegant font which outlined details, including that it began at 6 with no finishing time. I asked everyone to dress formally and the venue was at home. Everyone loved the invites. They looked different and appealed to everyone's interest. Mum and I agreed to set the house up by rooms rather than one central theme. We had a dancing room, games room, sitting/fashion room, TV room and dining room. The dancing room was given the most attention in terms of decoration. We used glitter 'happy birthday' signs to decorate the floor with and make it seem less like a garage. We covered the walls with white sheets and added a disco light. By the time the garage was finished, no one guessed it was a garage! The games room was for people who weren't really into dancing or wanted to do something else. We set up games such as Twister. The games room was the most simple one of all. The sitting/fashion room was a quiet room in the front of the house, where people could go and sit down. I stacked some magazines and fashion decor. The effect was more elegant than I originally assumed. The TV room was next to the dining room. Nobody used it because there was way too much to amuse themselves with, but it was there just incase. An old-fashioned popcorn machine was set up and dvds were stacked next to our television. Couches surrounded the room in a semi-circle to make more space and also to create a 'homey' feeling. The dining room required the most work. We used white linen tablecloths, china and silverware. Silver napkins and large candle-holders were set up. It almost looked like a small restaurant. My mother and grandmother made enough food for an army. Literally. Everything had a little twist to it. The celery was dipped in a delicious sour cream mixture, the biscuits had a variety of dips and the drinks were put in elegant glasses. My favourite foods such as chicken snitchzel, chocolate eclairs, pasta and bachamel were all made nice and hot just before the party. The food was definitely one of the best parts. I wanted to make the cake so that I could customize the amount of everything I put on it. Mainly chocolate. A large slab of chocolate sponge was slathered with icing and strawberries, and finished off with tiny silver edible balls. It looked gorgeous. I actually used the making of my cake as an activity with one of my closest friends the day before the party. My dress was probably the first thing organised. I had envisaged it but knew I wouldn't find it anywhere. We agreed to get it made and found a reasonably priced independent contracter. I showed her the design and she delivered it. In the end she made it utterly and completely wrong, and I was extremely upset. I simply had to use a substitute. When the guests arrived they went straight to the dancing room. After the final cooking had been done everyone moved to sit down and eat. During this time some girls got up and made speeches for me and presented me with a gift that they had all planned. It was a memorable meal. People used the other rooms quite a lot, but the dancing and sitting rooms were occupied most of the night. I bought a piniata and we hung it up in the TV room, as it was the best available for space and height. Considering the fact that everyone was in formal dress and we were all 16 and over, it was hilarious to watch everyone dive and scramble over the contents of the piniata. When the party began to draw to an end, everyone took some food home as well as several photos of the night. They all commented on how much fun they had and everyone still holds good memories of the night. The cake was finished, most of the food was gone, and the house was trashed. I couldn't have thought up a better ending.
