Sleepover Party

April 2006

Julie in Disputanta, VA  United States

This party's theme celebrates girlfriends. Teens enjoy non-stop action. We started my daughter's birthday/sleepover with a shopping contest at the mall. We split the girls into small teams. Each team had an adult chaperone. Each girl got an inexpensive small purse with a pen, a shopping list and $15. Whoever bought all of their items for the least amount of money won the contest. The items were something silly to wear on your head, 1 pair crazy socks, a goofy cup, 1 helium-filled balloon, lipstick, a piece of candy, something funny, something that smells, something that glows-in-the-dark & one piece of jewelry. The items purchased made up their goody bags & contributed to the party decorations as well.   Back at the house, we laughed at our purchases. We had pizza delivered & wore our silly hats, drank out of our goofy cups while sitting under our helium-filled balloon bouquet. Some girls were wearing bunny ears while others had tiarras, one had a St. Patty's Day hat. One of the balloons said "It's a girl!" and another said "Get Well."   We hung Christmas lights in the family room & had a disco ball & a strobe light going. With the lights turned off, we played Dance Dance Revolution (Play Station 2) with 2 dance mats while wearing our glow-in-the-dark items. Some of the girls sung karaoke in the bedroom while waiting for their turn at DDR.   We had cake & ice cream while opening presents. Full of cake & tired from dancing, we settled in to watch a movie, "Howl's Moving Castle".  When the movie was over we were ready to go again. We went on-line to www.Ya-Ya.com & got our secret Ya-Ya sisterhood names from the website's name generator. We used these names for the rest of the party. We played a version of pin the tail on the donkey. We helped each other put on the lipstick we'd bought in the shopping contest, put on a blind-fold, got spun around & had to kiss a poster of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). The closest kiss to his lips won.   Mom had printed 3 skits off of the Girl & Boy Scout websites & we tried to perform the skits without laughing too hard while Mom recorded it. It was funnier the second time when we watched ourselves on tv.   Next we all went outside & watched Dad set off a fireworks display (bought on sale after the 4th of July).  We pumped up air-mattresses. The girls got into their pajamas and crazy socks from the shopping contest & set out their sleeping bags. After a late night snack of chocolate chip cookies, cheezeits, chips & dip, we climbed into our sleeping bags & watched another movie, "Narnia", while everyone was more than ready to fall asleep.
