When I turned fourteen, it was the last year that I had with my friends before we all went to different high schools, so I wanted to plan I birthday party that all of my friends would remember. Following my mom's suggestion, I dediced to start planning a mall scavenger hunt party. Because I had not had a birthday party for years, it was okay with my parents that this would be a more pricy party. In the end, (including food) the party ended up costing about $300. The first thing that I did was make the list of the things to find, questions to anwser, and things to take pictures of. For the things to find, there were things like green lipgloss, a yellow toe ring, rainbow knee socks, and a bag of chocolate coins. These items are inexpensive, and as my friends later found out, make good goody bag items! For my questions, I asked things like, What stores surrond Baskin Robbins?, how many employees are currently working at Abercrombie and Fitch?, how much does the expensive pair of jeans sold at Nordstroms cost?, and True or False- See's Candies is across from Sharper Image? For the picture questions, I had them take a picture of things like a person getting their makeup done, a manequine wearing some sort of green, and a public restroom. Instead of buying disposable cameras, we used digital cameras and picture phones.  I then sent out invitations, and quickly everyone replied.I invited ten of my friends 'randomly' drew names from a hat to divide the girls into five grous of two. (Of course, I rigged it so that I could be with my best friend!). My parents then gave each group twenty five dollars, the list that I had made, and a list of rules. The rules were that they had to stay in partners, couldn't spend anymore money than given, and had to report back to our meeting spot in two hours. For two hours solid, the mall had groups of girls running around laughing and screaming! When the party was over, we ate dinner at the food court while my parents talied up who won. My parents gave each girl $5 to get food from whenever she wants. This was a good idea because it kept everyone happy. The winner of the party got a $20 gift certificate to the mall, and even those who didn't win got to divide the items that they got with their partner.  Much to my relief, the party was a huge sucess! It even became very competitive!!! Everyone had a great time. Even nearly three years later, whenever I talk to one of my friends that came to the party, I still hear, "Gemma, remember at your party when..."!!!
