I had a birthday party last year when I turned 15. It took me awhile to decide what to do. I decided that I would have a formal dinner party. I invited my 7 closest friends to have an elegant evening. The party was in late October so it was rather chilly so I started a fire in the living room. As each guess arrived in their formal evening wear they proceeded to the living room for sparkling pear juice in fancy wine glasses. I, the birthday girl, was wearing a tiara showing I was the special girl that night. We chatted in there with some lite classical music playing until everyone arrived and our meal was ready. Our meal consisted of eight courses. All of which were prepared by my mom and grandma. As we entered the dinning room there were candles burning and our finest dishes were set out. Everyone sat down by the setting that had their name tag by it. We were all anticipating our first course. The first course was spinach and olive hummuses w/ bread. We all ate those up right away then awaited the second course. That consisted of Lime Poppyseed Salad. That was different but quite good. The third course was Creamy Tomato soup w/ bread sticks (my mom's specialty). By this time we were starting to get full! The fourth course was shrimp cocktail. The fifth course was Spinach Orzo w/ fresh garden beans YUM!! The sixth course was Mango sorbet to "cleanse ourselves" before the main dish. The seventh course was Chicken Kiev w/ rice pilaf. Finally the eighth course was Grasshopper pie. By this time all of us were stuffed to the brim. I enjoyed watching all of my friends try all of these new dishes. After our quite dinner we all clapped and thanked the "chefs" for the wonderful meal. Each of the guests brought clothes to change into after the meal. We got in our PJs and got wild downstairs and watched some movies. After all the fun we took the girls home. Each of them said it was the best birthday they've been to. It was a lot of work and didn't cost very much. It was well worth it! The only thing my mom and I agreed on was that the courses were too big and that they would have to be smaller so we could enjoy everything. I also went online to see what a normal eight course meal would look like so it would be just right.
