I am planning a birthday party for June and it is going to be Hawaiin themed, I am actually planning to use the same sort of idea for both my bff's suprise party(14) and my sisters sweet sixteen. Here's the idea: Decorations and Activities/ Games: I have a pool, so the party is going to be at my house in my backyard. My idea is to have it really laid back and not have people have to do things at certain times. Outside people can play in the pool, guys can toss football, and I'll leave out some hula hoops. For My sister/BFF I am going to designate part of my backyard as her throne. The area will be covered in sand and a smaller blow up pool will be just for her and about 2-3 of her CLOSEST friends. In her personal beach she will have three lawn chairs and a cooler of drinks just for her and her buds. Inside will be under water. I don't plan to go ALL out as we're talking about teens not 4 year olds, but there will be blue streamers everywhere and blue balloons on the floor. Inside we have two TVs, one will be set up with our Wii and the other with Dance Dance Revolution. Nearing the end I will probably clean up one game system and run old Tropical movies such as Finging Nemo and Gillagons Island just in case people want a break from everyone. Once it gets dark our already owned tiki lights(with bug repellent in them) will be lit along with our fire pit for roasting marshmellows. Inside I also plan to have a big game of Battle of The Sexes as my only big activity  Food: For food I will try to keep it to light finger foods. Kabobs will be the majority, such as ones with meat, vegetables, and fruit. For drinks I will have a tiki bar with virgin pina coladas, strawberry daquiris, mock tinis, and of course good old soda. I also plan to have a Make Your Own Sundae Bar set up all day (with ice cream in Cooler) Cake: My dad's 50th birthday was Lobster themed so I plan to base this cake of the one I made then. It was a HUGE round cake covered in blue fondant. I crushed up graham crakers for sand and use fruit roll-ups( or fandant) to make the corner of a beach towel. Use white frosting and cover half the cake the drop a drop of blue food coloring and spread it UNEVENLY add more drops until you're happy with the water. Make sure you don't mix too well or you won't get the Tie-Dye effect. Now, for my dads I made a second lobster cake and added it on top, but in this case I will make a pineapple cake with 14 or 16 in fondant written on it (use fondant and the same food coller dropping method to make the pineaple).  Costume: Personally I see no reason to purposefully humiliate my friends so I will just ask them to wear their swim suit and a pair of shorts. If either My BFF or SIS decides to have close buds sleep over I'll suggest some PJs. When People arrive they probably will get a lei, but that will the extent of their need to dress Hawwain. Favors: For girls their goody bag will have little lip gosses, hand lotions, and such things. Also a flower comb I saw at Oriental Trading(GREAT PLACE for cheap little toys and decorations I saw a Tiki bar there but didn't want all the effort for a party.) Mini surfer key chains will be given to both guys and girls. Guys will also get those confetti popper guns. and both will get candy LOTS OF CANDY  Mostly this party will be do what you want sorta thing, because I know that I hate when people are rushing you to do activities that are really not for your age.
