Summer Sleepover Luau Party 13yr

February 2009

Anna in Lawrence LA Calfornia

Okay, so every summer I always have a pool party but this year I wanted to make things a little more fun. So I decided to step it up a knoch. I'm having a Luau! It's going to be so fun! There will be a barbeque, pool, limbo, a movie, water balloon fights, sack races, scavenger hunts, sprinklers competitions and grand prizes! Guests will be told to come in costume on the invitations that way they can be entered in the costume contest. The invitations were made on the computor, I made a collage of pictures from hawaii and beaches, then wrote the important info in sharpie after I printed it out. Finally, when my 12 guests arrived in costume I told them all the rules of the games and gave out their teams. When my guests do have free time to go wherever they want or are slit up for a game i will have a mega phone to tell them to all meet back up in the middle of my backyard for the next activity(i made sure i gave enough time for everything and enough time for fun). Next we had a limbo competition, the prize for that was a poster,at the beginning of the party my dad had taken a picture of us all together and printed it out to make it a poster for the limbo prize and on top he wrote: Luau 09'. Next we had the barbeque, roasted marshmallows and chatted while eating. We ate on the deck. Next we all had an hour to do whatever we wanted! We could swim, have waterballoon fights, swing on my tire swing, limbo, or whatever! Everyone was having a great time so far, the next thing we did was sack races. It was great, and the reward for that was a picture frame with a collage of everything we had done this whole party! It was a great reward. Then people were starting to get hot again and didn't want to go back in the pool again just yet-so we all decided to go in the sprinklers! It was fun and the perfect way to cool off. Now, it was time for the first TEAM competition, everyone was very excited for that! The first TEAM competition was toga war! The Islanders team won this one! Next I decided we all deserved an award, so I handed out colorful lei's to each person at the luau. Now everyone was pumped up again for the second TEAM challenge! It was a waterballoon fight! This was fun and cooled everyone off! But oh no! Now we had a tie! This meant we would have to have the final challenge the ultimate tie breaker! A scavenger hunt! I hid things around my backyard that had to do with hawaii and luau's, on each team there was 6 people, so if something said: somewhere high i do stand..etc when they found the place i was talking about i would hide 6 flowers for their hair in there. When they were those it would be proof they really did find it. Now after this fun scavenger hunt we had a final winner! The prize was small little palm tree trophies that said #1 on them for each person on the winning team. Now it was time I announced the winners for all the contests and gave out all the awards! The awards were, a poster, picture frame, trophies, and blow up dolphin. Everyone loved it! Then we went inside to change into our pajamas and set up our sleeping bags. Outside my house in the back right next by the pool there's a door that leads to my basement and is perfect for fitting in 12 people! The basement was decorated as well with a few blow up palm trees and sand colored rug and blue wallpaper(we added in white clouds and a sun for the party using construction paper and tape). We watched a movie and had dance off's(LOL!!!), played board games like, girl talk and mall madness, gave eachother makeovers, did our nails, talked, had a fashion show with out pajamas, ate snacks and went to sleep. Then in the morning when we woke up we had breakfast back on the deck so it would still fill like the luau theme and had fun outside untill parents picked us up. The goodie bags were lip gloss shaped like a shell, mini beach balls, and sun glasses. The decorations at the party were blow up palm trees, christmas lights to look more festive, the limbo stick, and scattered beach towels to make it feel more like a real beach. I had my friend burn a cd for the party because she is great at that. We built a hammock for the party and bought tiki torches. The timing was from 6:00 Pm to 10:00 Am. It was a luau nobody would ever forget.
